United Press-ure

Welcome to The First issue of a new magazine that will inform, entertain, enlighten, and through action and unity, bring
change and hope to a bleeding nation and it's next generation.
who stepped up for the katrina crisis?? we--the people did. and not nearly enough of us!
it is always assumed that the government will come to the rescue...while we grow fat and indifferent-
put down your chips and remotes and take a stroll through your town or neighborhood and see the children who have no home, cold and hungry, their dreams limited to a hot meal and a bed.
Take in the littered streets, parks, and forest preserves. how often do you bend down to pick up just one can or bottle and toss it in the trash? Ever????
see how people walk past a mugging or most any crime and if they even notice--Most simply quicken their pace, and look away...
Away from the homeless, from the reality that while our government is aidiing other countries in need, providing food and clothes, education, and medicine...instead of providing for the countless with the same needs right here in america.
How can we be a respected, Proud country when we watch our children die because medical funding is not a priority, and our cries go unheard.---We can make a difference in many areas in many ways. and this publication is where it begins.
My name is Judy Gannon (formerly co-editor, Co interviewer, Writer, & Photographer of The Alternative It was a small Atlanta fanzine chet knight with some big Interviews, and had potential, but it was Chets baby, and he feared selling out...I saw greatness and hope, I saw change, and healing for our nation---but I was just the wife--Now the fanzine is going to be run by me---Time to Act instead of bitch ---- Initially I was going to revive The Alternative...But My 11 year old son inspired me to try something much more rewarding...He has heart disease, and after 2 open heart surgeries and 2 strokes, he wants to help others live longer, the surgery he had used to give a child 20 years...but 10 years later when he had the same thing done the kids are living into 30's, 40's, ---But there are other children with life-threatening and terminal illnesses not just in Chicagos Childrens hospital, but in every corner of this country...All Proceeds from the sale of this 'zine, and any money brought in for benefit concerts to come, will be split between funding cures and progress medically, and The Make-A-Wish foundation who has offered to provide the venue for any benefit concert i can bring about as long
as it is an outdoor venue, so that hospitalized children may attend. This 'Zine will Contain Interviews & Pics With Musicians, Actors, Politicians, And Medical Specialists. Aricles may be submitted for inclusion in The publication Record, Restauraunt, and other reviews will be included. I don't call that selling out. Prices will remain affordable to the underground.
the 'zine will have a freshness and a purpose...and will be seprated into several styles.
the orinal underground version where anything goes...
an upscale version for big name artists, actors, politicians etc...and the hospitals and organizations sponsoring it's creation....
2 e-zines one for the children for whom will be benefitting from all proceeds, a place where they don't have to wear a mask of bravery and can speak freely with other kids across the nation.
and one for the parents who can do the same with other parents, anonomously and without feeling guilty about their feelings...they will only have access to their own sites...never to the kids, and vice versa...
Ideas and tweaks are a daily thing---until I have it set up so it works for everybody...
This is just the ist runthrough and rough draft...but you have the basic idea---

my address is United Press-ure publications

I appreciate your support and will be looking for the things you mentioned sending---
I am not particular about genre
will review anything and always interview bands opening for headliners---
the more i can hear--the better
when i do the benefit shows i want to include as many unknowns and small bands as poss---if they need the money cause they're living in their car or whatever --then they will keep the cash for playing but instead can do something for one kid in the hosp. like sing them a song play a boardgame, paint, teach them a riff on the guitar---you get the idea..
